Thought for the day.

I read the below message from a parent sitting in the hospital room of her very sick child.  She speaks of his breathing and it reminds her of how precious life is and that each breath we take is important and is from God.  "Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.". The word "cometh" is spelled that way for a reason.  It means it comes continually!  It never stops and God never waivers from His promise to sustain you!  But, we also know this, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:". - Romans 5:12.  This is not to say that a particular sin brought this sickness upon this little boy nor did a particular sin of his parents.  This simply means that death comes to all at some point because of our sin nature.  So, use your breaths wisely!  It takes breathing to talk so, "Put away from the a froward (ugly) mouth, and perverse (corrupt) lips (talk) put far from thee." - Proverbs 4:24.  In other words, make your conversation helpful and not hurtful!  You never know when your words spoken may be by the last breath that God gives you:  make them count for good!

Thoughts from a hospital room at 2am....
As I lay here listening to "John" breath... Slow, steady breaths that sound so much better than the night before... I am grateful. I am grateful because I don't know how many good breaths he has left. I am also reminded of how every breath he takes is a gift from God. Every breath I take is a gift from God! I inhale and exhale each day, taking for granted that the next breath will come....Not really considering what I will or will not do with the next breath. I hate to think How many breaths I have taken for granted...and how many breaths I have wasted....Or even used to harm. God has a design and purpose for each and every breath that we take. To obey Him...to serve Him... To worship Him...glorify Him... To tell others about Him... Are these the goals of each breath that God gives me? If not..... Why not?
None of us know how many breaths we have left!! So...when you think of "John" today, struggling for his next breath, please remember not to waste yours.
